B.Tech in Chemical Engineering

Why B.Tech in Chemical Engineering

What is B.Tech in Chemical engineering?

B.Tech in Chemical Engineering is an undergraduate degree in engineering that studies the principles and laws of physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and economics, to the mechanism of converting chemicals or raw components into more useful or valuable forms. They work in far-ranging industries from biomedical or nanotechnology to food processing and petrochemicals. It mainly involves developing and designing processes to create new products or to improve existing ones. Chemical engineers work to make our lives easier.

Why Study B.Tech in Chemical Engineering?

Engineering is not one single stream of science but rather divided into different branches with various sciences together laying their foundation. As technology advances, newer disciplines of engineering evolve out of the core branches of engineering.

One such branch is chemical engineering, that deals with conversion of raw materials, the processes involved in it and streamlining the processes to create quality finished products. B.Tech Chemical Engineering has its origins in petrochemical production and oil refining. Though the employment rate in this field is high, there are many other fields that graduates have started to explore. Those with a B. Tech chemical engineering degree are also exploring industries related to food processing and regenerative medicine while looking for solutions to energy problems faced worldwide. With this shift in focus, the scope of this engineering discipline has expanded greatly.

Here are five huge reasons why Chemical engineering should be your choice of stream when you opt for B.tech.

1.Great Career Prospects

B. Tech in Chemical Engineering is one of the most rewarding and employable engineering fields. A degree in chemical engineering opens up various doors of opportunities. Some of the top career prospects include Petroleum engineer, Production Engineer, Process Design Engineer, Chemical Equipment Engineer, Nuclear Power engineer, etc.

2. Lucrative Salary

With a degree in chemical engineering, you are sure to earn more than those with a degree from any other ordinary specialization. The reason is that this degree does not limit you. One can easily look for a job in manufacturing, mining, and analytical chemistry as well.  Both small and large companies hire chemical engineers, thus making it one of the most in-demand and highest-paying professions across the globe.

3.Travel Opportunity

Chemical engineering graduates get some great travel opportunities throughout their career. They are required to travel for work across the country. All this is happening because of the boom in the industry and the well-known multinational companies operating in the sector. So, if you are looking out to move abroad soon, choose chemical engineering as there will be an abundance of opportunities coming your way.

4.Recession Proof

Because a chemical engineer is instrumental in the industry cutting across sectors, the career of a chemical engineer is recession proof. If people will need everyday life products and other major industrial products like oil, energy, electricity a chemical engineer will stay employed.

5.Research opportunities

Chemical engineering relates itself not only to engineering solutions for commercial processes and products but to improve the environment we live in altogether. Various aspects of Chemical engineering and how it can be utilized to help mankind remain untapped. As the field is constantly developing, the need for vigorous research is also increasing. This field provides an outstanding platform to those who are creative, love to innovate and are talented enough. When it comes to chemical engineering, innovativeness is always welcomed.

There are many more reasons one should pursue chemical engineering, but the above are the most relevant ones.

Scope of Chemical Engineering:

After completing Chemical Engineering, candidates have immense scope in various fields. One can get employment opportunities in industrial plants and refineries, offices, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, etc. Along with private corporations, one can also get to work in government organizations.

Some chemical engineers make designs and invent new processes. While there are some who construct instruments and facilities; there are others who plan and operate facilities. Chemical engineers have helped develop atomic science, polymers, paper, dyes, drugs, plastics, fertilizers, foods, petrochemicals, etc.

Scope of Chemical Engineering is as follows:

  • Oil & Petroleum Industry
  • Chemical Manufacturing industry
  • Food Industry
  • Electronics Industry
  • Rubber Industry
  • Textiles Industry
  • Fertilizers Industry
  • Paper & Pulp Industry
  • Cement Industry
  • Health-care Industry
  • Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industry
  • Scientific research in the laboratory
